LOCATION VARIES - As a new student you are REQUIRED to participate in this event. “Colloquium with Your College” locations are listed on the Student Life website at Colloquium Event List 2021 | Department of Student Life | Michigan State University (msu.edu) and your specific information is also available on your Individual Personalized Fall Welcome Schedule. During this event new Spartans will meet other new students in their college, the Dean, Faculty, Academic Advisers and upper-class students. This session is an essential way for you to learn about what it takes to be successful at Michigan State University.

“Land-Grab Universities”
 
JMC students only. Discussion with Dr. Robert Lee and Tristan Ahtone Zoom Webinar - Co-authors of “Land-grab Universities” will join us for virtual discussion about their article. Please read the article HERE before this joining this session. Click HERE to submit one question to ask our guest speakers. Note some questions may not be answered due to time constraints.

We welcome you to drop in to Career Services in the Student Services Building during Fall Welcome and meet our team! Come stop by and see who we are, what we do, and how we can help you navigate all things career. Our career advisors will be available with resources to help you find a part-time job, tips to write or polish your resume, and help define and research your career interests.

Midday Meditation and Yoga
 
Recreational Sports and Fitness Services staff will conduct a mindfulness activity of yoga and meditation via Facebook Live. Check Rec Sports and Fitness website for link at recsports.msu.edu. Program will be virtually presented at various iconic locations on campus. Hosted by Recreational Sports and Fitness Services.

- Wilson Hall Auditorium - LIVE IT! @ JMC Is an interactive workshop designed to introduce first-year students to concepts of diversity and civility.

Spartan Spirit Event at 1855 Place

1855 Place (550 S Harrison Rd, East Lansing, MI) - Michigan State Athletics welcomes Spartan students back on campus with fun activities and giveaways, plus an opportunity for students to pick up their football student section shirt at the Spirit Shop. In the south parking lot, games and activities will be set up, including a half-court shot for a free Izzone membership, football toss for football season tickets, hockey shot for Munnsters season tickets, yard games, and interaction with Michigan State student-athletes. In addition, the LiveOn Campus Crew, Residential and Hospitality Services (RHS) and Sparty’s Market will be hosting games and providing giveaways while you wait in line.

Academic Scholars Program (ASP) Welcome
 
Virtual - The Academic Scholars Program is excited to see its new students at our Welcome and Resource Fair. All activities are required for new first-year Academic Scholars Program members. The ASP Welcome will take place virtually from 1:30 - 2 PM. Please see your email for Zoom details and your assigned ASP Green Team meet-up location for 2:30 - 3:15 PM. All first-year students will then travel to People’s Park behind Wells Hall for a resource fair from 3:30 - 4 PM with Honors College staff and student organizations.

Honors College (HC) Convocation
 
People’s Park behind Wells Hall - The Honors College is excited to see its new students at our Welcome and Resource Fair. All activities are required for new first-year Honors College members. Please see your email for your assigned HC Green Team meet-up location for 2:30 - 3:15 PM. All first year students will then travel to People’s Park behind Wells Hall for a resource fair from 3:30 - 4 PM with our new dean, HC staff, and student organizations.

The Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) Welcome Orientation Workshop
Virtual - Meet your Ability Access Specialist and learn about accommodations and services available to you. This event is for new students registered with RCPD. More information available at rcpd.msu.edu/programs/wow.

The “Fall Welcome Spartan Spectacular”

Cherry Lane Field (the field located on the corner of Shaw Lane & Harrison Rd) - You are strongly encouraged to join us for the “Fall Welcome Spartan Spectacular” event showcasing some of our traditional programs with a touch of a few new and spectacular components. SPARTAN SPECTACULAR will kick-off with a Residential and Hospitality Services (RHS) FALL WELCOME CULINARY CREATIONS EVENT. This will be followed by our traditional SPARTICIPATION event which will highlight over 500 student organizations. The SPARTAN SHOWCASE EVENT will be hosted throughout Fall Welcome Spartan Spectacular and will feature demonstrations and announcements by Sparticipation event participants.

Starting at 7:30 PM in Spartan Stadium we will close out the evening and host the biggest Pep Rally in the “Big Ten”, the SPARTAN SPIRIT event. The Spartan Spirit event will feature greetings by campus VIP’s, numerous athletic coaches, the MSU homecoming court and MSU’s own magnificent MSU Marching Band will be on hand as well, to provide lots of traditional MSU songs that will let you know you are truly at “the school known to all”! The Fall Welcome Spartan Spectacular event will close out with a movie in Spartan Stadium.

  • 4 – 8 PM RHS FALL WELCOME CULINARY CREATIONS EVENT 
    Join RHS for a culinary creation food experience. Food service times from 4 - 8 PM. During the event residential dining halls (Brody Square, South Pointe at Case, The Gallery at Snyder/Phillips and The Edge at Akers)will be closed from 3:30 - 7 PM. They will reopen from 7 - 9 PM and offer a unique menu to match outdoor food service. Heritage Commons at Landon, The Vista at Shaw and Thrive at Owen will close at 3:30 p.m. with no further service for the day. Culinary Creations sponsored by the RHS.

  • 7:30 PM SPARTAN SPIRIT PEP RALLY
    (EVENT HELD IN SPARTAN STADIUM, doors open at 7 PM) - Sponsored by the Department of Student Life and Spartan Athletics.
