, Since Spartans strive to embody the MSU idea of “education for others”, let’s start this year off right and “Fill the Bus” by donating school supplies for those in need in our community. Small donations make BIG impacts: that extra notebook, folder, pack of markers, or other items you give, combined with those of thousands of MSU students and staff, helps to make the beginning of the school year brighter for local children and their families.

Fall Convocation, The formal ceremony that marks the beginning of each academic year that welcomes the newest members of the MSU community to our “pioneer land-grant university”. President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D., Provost Teresa K. Woodruff, Vice-President and Associate Provost, Denise B. Maybank, Ph.D., Vice President and Associate Provost for Student Affairs and Services, and Mark Largent, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education & Dean of Undergraduate Studies will extend greetings to you during the event. As a new student, you are REQUIRED to attend this formal ceremony.

Spartan Spectacular, Join us for Spartan Spectacular, an event hosted over five days from Monday, August 31 to Friday, September 4, starting with our Fall Welcome Spartan Spectacular Kick-Off event followed by an innovative and virtual edition of SPARTICIPATION highlighting hundreds of student organizations, departments, programs, and sponsors. Hosted on Easy Virtual Fair (EVF).

Spartan Spectacular Kick-Off, Kick-Off event for Spartan Spectacular.

Sparticipation, virtual edition of Sparticipation. Chat with members of the organizations between 5 - 8 p.m. each day! Spartan Virtual Dance Party, hosted by Student Life and Impact 89FM. Join us for a Spartan virtual dance party featuring our own award winning radio station Impact 89FM. Dance lessons will be provided. The event will feature a wide variety of music genres, appearances by VIP Spartans, and other Spartan DJ's.

Resource Center For Persons With Disabilities (RCPD) Welcome Orientation Workshop, RCPD welcome orientation workshop.

Colloquium With Your College, Each college will offer sessions where new students will learn more about activities in their college, and have a chance to talk in small groups with faculty and instructors about expectations and strategies for success in their particular field of study. The Neighborhood Student Success Collaborative will meet with “no preference” students. You are REQUIRED to attend this session that completes your introduction to your college and major.

University Activities Board‘s 40th Annual U-Fest, Event hosted by UAB that will include fun filled activities and giveaways. https://uabevents.com/CarpetProgram

Commuter/Transfer Student Meeting, New students to MSU who do not reside on campus and students who have previously attended another post-secondary institution but are new to MSU are strongly encouraged to attend this session. Information on making MSU your “home away from home” and an opportunity to meet fellow commuting Spartans are the goals of this session. Important information about such topics as transfer of credits, parking, and feeling connected to MSU will be highlighted.

Honors College (HC) Convocation, A short welcoming ceremony with alumni, faculty, and current student speakers for our over 600 new students. All new students are expected to attend. A link to view the convocation will be sent by 2:30 pm on September 1, it will be held virtually and followed by a HC Green Teams Zoom reception.

Academic Scholars Program (ASP) Welcome, ASP looks forward to welcoming new members during the virtual ASP Convocation. Join us to celebrate the start of the year and connect with program staff about Fall resources & opportunities! Zoom access information will be sent to your MSU email address on Monday, August 31. Attendance is expected from all ASP members.

Fall Welcome Spartan Spectacular, Join us for Spartan Spectacular. The event will feature an innovative Sparticipation event highlighting hundreds of student organizations, departments, and programs, and sponsors. The event will feature some new and spectacular components in addition to our traditional Spartan Spectacular events. Hosted on Easy Virtual Fair. There will be a fireworks display live streamed via Facebook Live WILL BE RESCHEDULED due to weather.

Greek Fall Welcome, Join MSU’s Fraternity and Sorority Life for Greek Fall Welcome virtually through EasyVirtualFair on the night of September 3. Fraternity and Sorority Life provides students the opportunity to find their home away from home here at MSU. Greek Fall Welcome is hosted by all 4 governing Greek Councils - Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the Panhellenic Council (PC). This all-inclusive event, put on by a committee of Fraternity and Sorority Life members, brings together all 62 chapters and is a great opportunity to learn more about the Greek community. By attending GFW, you will be able to virtually speak with chapter members and learn more about the benefits of Fraternity and Sorority Life, opportunities to join a chapter, and what it means to be a member of this community at MSU.

Fem Fest Virtual Concert With Impact 89 Radio

Spartan Remix, Spartan Remix is MSU’s Annual Multicultural Welcome Festival that takes place each fall on the Thursday after Labor Day. This unique event is a celebration of art, music, and culture where diverse communities come together in celebration, education and pride of their communities. The Office of Cultural & Academic Transitions coordinates the event with a diverse group of students who volunteer to be part of the Spartan Remix Planning Committee. Join this year’s virtual event on Thursday, September 10th, first, by interacting with MSU’s multicultural student organizations from (6:00PM-7:30PM) through EasyVirtualFair featuring a LIVE CHATS portion. Then, stay tuned for a LIVE-Streamed Show from (7:30PM-9:00PM) featuring sounds by CJ the Gifted, performances and special guest appearances. The LIVE-streamed show will be aired on ZOOM and live-streamed to Facebook and YouTube. For more information visit www.ocat.msu.edu.

WED., SEPT. 16
Fall Veterans Orientation - Join the Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC), Peer Advising for Veteran Education (PAVE), and the Neighborhood Student Success Collaborative (NSSC) in learning about services and resources for military-affiliated students. This event is primarily aimed at those who have served or are currently serving in the military, but military dependents are also welcome to attend. The event will be virtually via Zoom. An event Zoom link will be sent to student veterans prior to the event.
